About Lustra

Meet the Maker

Hi, I’m Jakob. Design has always been part of how I see the world, and making things has always been my way of understanding it. Lustra brings those two together in form, texture, and light.

This is a piece of my story that you now get to bring into your own space.

How It Started

Lustra was born from two parts of my life that have always shaped how I see the world: my love of making things and my deep fascination with spaces and design.

As a kid, I spent hours in my grandfather’s workshop, surrounded by tools, offcuts, and the thrill of creating something from scratch. I built odd inventions. Some worked, some didn’t. But I was hooked on the process. Years later, that same instinct led me to 3D printing, a tool that now sits at the heart of every Lustra piece.

A Love for Space and Light

At the same time, design was always close. My father is an architect, and I grew up wandering around his office, studying blueprints and later watching forms come to life on glowing computer screens. I discovered how much joy and meaning can come from shaping a space, especially through light. Over the years, I have moved several times, and each new space became a new design project. Lighting was always one of the first things I considered. Not just where it goes, but how it feels, what it brings to a room, and how it transforms everything once switched on.

What Lustra Means to Me

Lustra is where these two worlds, the maker and the designer, come together. The name evokes light and softness, but also clarity and presence. To me, a lamp isn’t just a functional object. It is a way to bring warmth, and identity into a space, as it stands there quietly, yet meaningfully.

Each lamp is 3D printed from a combination of bio-based and recyclable materials. They are thoughtfully produced and hand-assembled in small batches in Lausanne. The production is partially powered by solar energy, and the lamps are shipped in minimal, plastic-free packaging. If you live nearby, I might even deliver your lamp by bike.
